信用单位

The policy described below follows guidelines set forth by the New York State Department 美国教育部和中部州高等教育委员会.

火博体育学院使用的学分单位是学时.  符合 the traditional "Carnegie Unit" accepted by most American colleges and universities, one credit represents completion of one 50-minute class period per week over a 15-week 学期.  In practice, Skidmore schedules a 55-minute class period to ensure compliance.  For certain non-traditional and individual academic activities, the College uses 60-minute 上课期间或同等时间.  在任何情况下，学院都希望有两个小时的户外活动 work or preparation for every 55-60 minutes spent in class (or its equivalent).  一个 学期 hour of credit therefore represents ~3 小时 of academic work per week or 每学期要完成45小时的学业.

Semester credit 小时 are granted for various types of instruction as follows:

1. 讲座、研讨会、讨论
   A 学期 credit hour is an academic unit earned for fifteen 55-minute 会话 of classroom instruction with a normal expectation of two 小时 of outside study for 每节课. 通常，一门3学分的课程分为三节55分钟的课 每周上课，共15周，每学期共45节课.  典型的3学分 本课程总共需要90个小时的课外工作或准备.

2. Activity Supervised as a Group (Laboratory, Practicum, Workshop, Group Studio)

3. Supervised Individual Activity (Independent Study, Individual Studio, Tutorial)
   (a) 一个 credit for independent study (defined as study given initial guidance, criticism, review, and final evaluation of student performance by a faculty member) will be awarded for the equivalent of 45 小时 of student academic activity, representing an average 每周运动3小时，持续15周.
   (b) Credit for tutorial study (defined as study that is given initial faculty guidance followed by repeated, regularly scheduled individual student conferences with a faculty member and periodic as well as final evaluation of student performance) will be awarded on the basis of 1 学期 hour credit for each equivalent of fifteen 55-minute instructional 会话.  The College expects that students will work a minimum of two 小时 in preparation 对于每个定期安排的会议.

   If a student's academic activity is essentially full time (as in student teaching), 每周工作可获得1个学期学分.

   Credit 小时 may be earned in short 会话 (summer ses­sions, intercessions, etc.) proportionately to those earned for the same activity during a regular term of the institution, normally at no more than one 3-credit course per week of full-time study.

灵活的第四学时

符合 the College's expectations for supervised individual activity and the flexible fourth credit hour, on-line and blended learning courses earn one 学期 45小时的学术活动的学分.  此活动可能包括但不包括 limited to:  real-time lecturing (in class or via streaming technology), on-line learning tutorials, projects, or discussion, the preparation required for students to engage in the course, and assignments used for the assessment of student learning.  建议 for on-line or blended learning courses must be submitted to the Curriculum Committee with a rationale and syllabus to account for number of 小时 devoted to academic activity.  As with all proposals to the Curriculum Committee, proposals for on-line or blended learning courses must describe the learning goals and means of assessment for required activities.

旅游研讨会

Short-term travel experiences guided by the faculty are awarded 学期-小时 credit according to the number of instructional 小时 as defined for lectures, seminars, 还有讨论部分. 每个相当于13.75个小时的教学和30个小时 学生准备课程的学分为一学期时.

实习 

With faculty sponsorship, professional experience may be granted 学期 小时 credit.  每一个 学期 hour credit requires 45 小时 of supervised activity in the field.
